Erica, Jess, and I drove down to the navy base in Yokosuka. I've been in Japan for almost 6 months and I have to say that it is nice to buy familar groceries without spending a small fortune.
We drove over to Kamakura and went to Kotoku-in. This temple is unusual for Japan in that it has an exposed statue of Buddha.
Here's my photo for the day.
The Kamakura Daibutsu. This seated Buddha is a national teasure. This Buddha statue unique in Japan in that it is not covered - it is not in a temple. The Buddha is over 13 meters high and weighs about 120 tons.
We walked around Hase station. There are a lot of temples and shrines in that area wand we stopped at many of them. A wall was covered in these little guys.
Goryo Shrine was a nice stop. It was empty except us, which is always a nice break. The area of Kamakura we were in was very quiet and relaxing. It was a nice break from the busy city, and I cannot wait for my next visit.
