While working on my Environmental Science major I focused my research on avian vision and how to simulate this vision for human benefit. Birds can see a different range of light than humans, which fascinates me and it is though this research, which led me to photographing a new body of work. The focus of my work for “What you see is a lie” is looking at microscopic elements though the lens of my camera and making them macroscopic. By looking at these microscopic elements I wanted to create a sense of discovery of what these objects could become when printed on the macro level. Creating different filters on a light source also helped with creating this sense of wonder and mystery to my subject matter. I want my audience to search and discover looking at the overlooked.
I want to thank everyone who helped me make this show possible! Elissa Wenthe, Linda Figdore, Tim Wolff, Becky Carpenter, Ellen Althouse, Laura Colby, Elizabeth Roneker, and everyone else for their support!
